Risk AssessmentThe first hurdle will be to sell the idea to your Head and the Off-site Visits Co-ordinator in your school! Voyages of Discovery produce a comprehensive professional risk assessment for the trip, and also send out the rules and etiquette for being on board and for off ship visits. When going ashore there is always a local tour guide and usually a Voyages of Discovery member of staff. In ‘higher risk’ areas coaches may travel in convoy (e.g. in Egypt) and a security guard also travels on the coach. ISAC have also produced a more ‘teacher friendly’ risk assessment as a guideline – obviously this is not meant to be comprehensive and will need adjusting for the needs of your school.
