Launching the Trip

A good way to launch the trip is to have an assembly or pupils' meeting(s) to gauge interest. Then send an initial letter to the parents inviting them to a meeting – it is wise not to mention cost in the letter. It is sometimes possible to arrange for David Baskott, the ship’s headmaster, to come to your meeting – as long as he has plenty of notice. Using a PowerPoint presentation/slide show of pictures of the places to be visited is always effective.

A parent’s pack outlining your talk is useful as there is a lot to remember.

As the cost is high, but excellent value for money, parents might want to subscribe to a monthly payments scheme – so it is a good idea to break this down. If you start 18months – 2 years before the trip the monthly payments do not seem daunting.

The next stage is to ask them to return a booking form with the NON-RETURNABLE deposit. Once you have collected all your deposits you will need to fill in an ISAC booking form which requires each pupil's name and date of birth. The total deposit is paid on one school cheque to the secretary of ISAC – you can add additional pupils later to your party if there are places available – check with the Secretary of ISAC.
